Broker compensation disclosure
My Solar Brokers, LLC is an independent broker — not an installer, not a call center, not a lead-aggregator. When you choose to move forward with one of my pre-vetted NJ installer partners, the installer pays me a referral fee at the close of your contract. You never pay me directly, and the installer's quote to you is not marked up to cover my fee.
This is the same model used by mortgage brokers, insurance brokers, and travel agents: the service is free to you because the provider you ultimately choose compensates the broker. Per the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255, updated June 2023), this is a material connection and I disclose it openly on every page of this site where I recommend installer partners.
Because I'm paid only when a homeowner signs with a partner, I have a financial interest in your decision — but the structure of that incentive means it's never in my interest to push solar or a roof on someone for whom it doesn't make sense. If solar doesn't fit your home, your roof, your finances, or your time horizon, the right answer is "no, not now," and I'll tell you that. A bad-fit install creates cancellations, complaints, and reputation damage that costs me far more than any one referral fee.
If you'd like to know whether a specific installer partner pays a higher referral than another, you're welcome to ask. I'll tell you. Transparency is the whole point.

Who I am
My Solar Brokers, LLC ("I", "me", "my") is an independent solar and roofing broker based in New Jersey. This privacy policy explains what information I collect, why I collect it, and what I do with it.
What I collect
- Contact info you give me — name, email, phone, ZIP code, and anything you tell me about your home or your solar inquiry, when you fill out a form, subscribe to my rate alerts, or contact me directly.
- Consent records — a timestamp, IP address, browser/user-agent string, and a copy of the consent language at the time you checked the consent box on a form. I retain these for at least 5 years to comply with federal TCPA recordkeeping expectations.
- Optional bill photo — if you choose to upload a photo of your electric bill on the calculator, I use it to give you a more accurate estimate. I don't retain it beyond your estimate cycle.
- Basic site analytics — page views, time on page, referring site. No personal identification.
Sensitive data: I don't knowingly collect any sensitive personal data (Social Security numbers, biometrics, precise geolocation, racial/ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, health information, or financial-account numbers). If a future workflow ever required any of these, I'd ask for your explicit opt-in first.
Children: This site is not directed to children under 13 and I don't knowingly collect any data from them. If you believe a child has submitted information, email me and I'll delete it.
How I use it
- To respond to your inquiry, send you a personalized solar estimate, and follow up about your project.
- To send you NJ solar rate alerts and educational content, ONLY if you've subscribed.
- To pass your information (with your explicit consent on the form) to one or more pre-vetted NJ installer partners for the purpose of generating competitive quotes for your home. The current vetting standards and a candid explanation of the partner roster live on the Vetted Installer Partners page.
- To maintain audit-trail records of marketing-consent activity, as required by TCPA and NJ telemarketing law.
Who I share with
- Vetted NJ installer partners — only after you've checked the consent box on a form, and only the partner(s) relevant to your project. I never sell your info to lead aggregators, marketing lists, or anyone else.
- Service providers — hosting (Hostinger), email delivery, and SMS delivery vendors process data on my behalf under contract. They are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
- Legal compliance — if subpoenaed or required by court order, I'll comply with applicable law.
How I don't use it
- I don't sell your information to anyone, ever.
- I don't share it with third parties beyond the installer(s) you ask me to shop with and the operational service providers listed above.
- I don't use it for cross-context behavioral advertising or retargeting ads on other sites.
- I don't use it for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Your rights under the New Jersey Data Privacy Act (NJDPA)
Effective January 15, 2025, the NJDPA gives NJ residents specific rights over their personal data. Even if I'm under the act's threshold for mandatory compliance (the act applies to controllers processing the data of 100,000+ NJ consumers, or 25,000+ if they sell data), I extend these rights to every NJ visitor as a matter of policy:
- Right to access — ask me what data I have about you. I'll send you a copy.
- Right to correct — ask me to fix inaccurate data.
- Right to delete — ask me to delete your data from my records.
- Right to data portability — receive a copy of your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Right to opt out of sale — you don't need to exercise this with me because I don't sell data, but you have the right regardless.
- Right to opt out of targeted advertising — same, I don't engage in targeted ads.
- Right to opt out of profiling — that produces decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. I don't profile.
- Right to appeal — if I deny a request, you can appeal in writing and I'll respond within 45 days with a reason and any recourse.
If you live in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Delaware, New Hampshire, Iowa, Indiana, Tennessee, Montana, Florida, or the EU, you have analogous (and sometimes broader) rights under CCPA/CPRA, VCDPA, CPA, CTDPA, UCPA, TDPSA, OCPA, DPDPA, NHDPA, ICDPA, TIPA, MCDPA, FDBR, or GDPR. The exercise mechanism below works for all of these regimes.
How to exercise your rights (DSAR)
Email chris@mysolarbrokers.com with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request — [Access / Delete / Correct / Portability / Other]" and include:
- The right you're exercising.
- The email address and phone number you used when you contacted me, so I can locate your records.
- Enough detail to verify your identity (I may ask one or two follow-up questions before processing).
I respond within 30 days of receiving a verifiable request (extendable by another 30 days if your request is complex, with notice). There is no fee for the first request in any 12-month period. You can also designate an authorized agent in writing to submit a request on your behalf.
Data retention
- Active inquiry data — kept while we're communicating about your project and for 24 months after the last interaction, unless you ask me to delete it sooner.
- Consent records — kept for 5 years from the date of consent (federal TCPA audit-trail expectation).
- Email subscriber list — kept until you unsubscribe.
- Tax / financial records related to closed projects — kept as required by federal and NJ tax law.
Third-party services
- Hostinger — web hosting and email infrastructure.
- WordPress core, theme, and plugin code — the software running this site.
- NJ installer partners — only when you've consented to a quote (see "Who I share with" above).
I don't currently load third-party analytics, social-media trackers, or advertising pixels on this site.
Cookies
I use a small number of necessary cookies for site functionality (remembering if you've dismissed a popup, your accessibility preferences, etc.). I don't use third-party tracking cookies. See my Cookie Notice for details.
Text messages
If you opt in to text messages, I'll send you appointment confirmations, estimate updates, or rate alerts. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe at any time, HELP for help. Messages are sent in compliance with NJ A-617 and federal TCPA rules. The one-to-one consent rule promulgated by the FCC in 2024 was vacated by the 11th Circuit in January 2025 and formally eliminated by the FCC in September 2025; my consent language nonetheless names the broker entity and links to the partner list as a best-practice defensive design.
Changes to this policy
If I make material changes, I'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for current subscribers, send you a heads-up email at least 7 days before changes take effect. For non-material changes (typo fixes, clarifications), I'll update the date but won't send a separate notice.
