Editorial policy: how facts are sourced, dated and corrected
Every rule on My Solar Brokers links to the public document it comes from, such as a law, a regulator’s order or a utility’s rate book. Each source line gives the document’s date, or says undated, and the day a person last opened it. A wrong sentence is corrected on its page, with the date.
Example source line: Internal Revenue Service, “Residential Clean Energy Credit” (page last reviewed or updated ). Checked 9 Oct 2026.
In this policy
Solar is a big decision, so check what you read: open any source, read its sentence next to ours, and you repeat the check a person ran first.
My Solar Brokers is a comparison website that connects homeowners with installer partners. We do not install solar.
Which sources decide a rule?
Four kinds of primary source decide what a rule says, and the higher row wins when two disagree about the same rule. An installer’s or lender’s page never carries a fact alone.
| Kind of source | Example and its date |
|---|---|
| 1. Law and regulation | Pennsylvania Code, 52 Pa. Code section 75.13: a source note lists each amendment, the last on . |
| 2. Regulator’s order or notice | New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, notice in Docket QO24090723 (the Board’s case number), dated . |
| 3. Utility tariff (rate book) | PECO Energy Company changes its rate book in numbered sets called supplements. Supplement No. 32 took effect , says a Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission letter of that date. |
| 4. Agency guidance or national laboratory | The PVWatts calculator, National Laboratory of the Rockies, shows a version, 8.7.4, and no date, so the website writes undated. |
Source: Each document linked in the table. Checked 9 Oct 2026.
When two federal pages disagree, the website follows the agency that applies the rule.
What do Source date, Checked and Facts checked mean?
A page shows up to three dates, and a person sets the last two.
- Source date
- The date the publisher prints on the document, or undated if it prints none.
- Checked
- The day a person compared the source with the sentence. It ends every source line.
- Facts checked
- The day a person finished checking the whole page, shown under its title. Software never sets it.
Worked example with a made-up source: how old is a check?
A check dated 20 March is 270 days old on 15 December, almost nine months. Say you read this made-up line on 15 December: “Example State Utility Board, Rate Order No. 12 (dated 5 February). Checked 20 March.” Before you rely on that rule, open the source and look for anything newer.
Who writes the pages, and how is each sentence checked?
Every page is published under the name My Solar Brokers, and no page credits a person. Software helps with the drafting; it does not check the result. A person compares five things in each sentence with its source.
- The claim, in the source’s terms.
- The number and its unit.
- The date or version the source shows, and nothing later.
- Who is named, as the source names them.
- The scope: customer type, system size, territory and year.
A sentence that fails any one is rewritten or removed. No source, no sentence.
What will you not find here?
You will not find installer scoreboards, customer endorsements or a forecast of what solar would do for your bill.
How do you report an error?
Send the page, the sentence and the source you checked through the Contact page. When a report shows a sentence is wrong, the correction is printed on its page, with the date, and added to the log below. Contact My Solar Brokers
No corrections have been published.
Where do you find each market’s sources?
Each market page ends with a numbered Sources block.
