My commitment
My Solar Brokers, LLC is committed to making mysolarbrokers.com accessible to people with disabilities. I conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as the operating target for this site. I treat accessibility as an ongoing process, not a one-time checkbox.
Conformance status
This site is built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. The current build is verified clean against the axe-core 4.x automated rule set on every reviewed page — no detected violations as of the last-reviewed date above. Automated tools catch roughly a third of real-world accessibility issues, so I also test manually with keyboard, with screen readers (VoiceOver on macOS / iOS, NVDA on Windows), and with the built-in accessibility settings widget on the site.
What I've done
- Semantic HTML — landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), heading hierarchy, lists, and tables used as intended.
- Alt text on all informative images. Decorative images are marked as such so screen readers skip them.
- Keyboard navigation — you can reach every interactive element with Tab/Shift-Tab. Forms submit on Enter. Popups dismiss on Escape.
- Visible focus states — every focusable element shows a clear focus ring; we don't suppress browser focus styles.
- Color contrast tested against WCAG AA contrast ratios for body text, button labels, and form labels.
- Reduced motion — if your OS has "Reduce Motion" enabled, the site honors it: counters jump to their final number instead of animating, scroll animations stop, etc.
- Form labels — every input has an associated label (visible or screen-reader-only); errors are announced via aria-live regions.
- Accessibility settings widget — a floating control on every page with 6 toggles (bigger text, pause motion, high contrast, dyslexia-friendly font, wider line spacing, always-underline links) plus a "Reading mode" preset that turns several toggles on at once for distraction-light reading. Settings persist across pages without an account.
- Screen-reader tested — navigation, forms, and the calculator flow are tested with VoiceOver. Errors and result-reveals announce via polite live regions.
Known limitations
Honest accounting:
- The exit-intent popup is desktop-only and triggers on a mouse gesture (cursor leaving the top of the viewport). Keyboard and touch users can still access the same content via the footer subscribe block and the contact page.
- Some third-party embeds (future Calendly widget, future YouTube videos) may have their own accessibility caveats — I'll vet each one before embedding.
- The site is built and maintained by a single developer (Hemi, on Chris's behalf). Edge cases for less common assistive technologies may surface. If you find one, please tell me — that's how it gets fixed.
How I verify this
Every section of this site is checked with automated axe-core scans at WCAG 2.1 AA on every release, plus manual screen-reader testing (VoiceOver on macOS / iOS, NVDA on Windows) for the key flows: hero CTAs, navigation, the multi-step calculator, contact forms, and the accessibility widget itself. I also test keyboard-only navigation end-to-end before shipping. The conformance claim above is grounded in this discipline — not in a vendor stamp. If you find a barrier the scans missed, tell me and I’ll fix it.
Report a barrier
If anything on this site is blocking you from getting the information or service you need, please reach out. Specifics that help me fix it fast:
- The page URL where you ran into the issue.
- What you were trying to do.
- What assistive technology you're using (screen reader name + version, voice control, etc.).
- What happened vs. what you expected.
Email chris@mysolarbrokers.com with the subject line "Accessibility — [page]" and I'll respond within 5 business days with either a fix, a workaround, or a realistic timeline.
